FIONA GODFREY

Fiona Godfrey came to Jamaica from Ireland in 1989 to teach art and literacy and never left. Whilst home-schooling her children in Mandeville she ran the exciting Young at Art education programme which generated national interest and culminated in many successful annual exhibitions. The personal work she is best known for in recent years is commissioned illustration and mosaic.
Godfrey is inspired by icons and early religious paintings that suggest connection with the divine. her work allows the spiritual to emerge from the experiences of being in relationships, being present, and being alive as a woman. Her work is figurative, engagingly intimate and bold. She moved to Kingston in 2003 and has been intensely focused on her painting, and an exciting body of work is emerging. She teaches art to adults and childrren in small private groups.
