MARIA DOWNES
Maria's inspiration to paint evolves from the various emotional responses that she has to everyday life; people, landscapes, flowers, patterns, colours, mood and light. Maria's original works are inspired by her travels to Jamaica, where she has maintained a second residence for many years. Maria's paintings have been well received and have been acccpted by several juried exhibitions, including the Fitchburg Art Museum, American Painters in Paris, the Concord Art Association, and numerous others in Boston and New York. She has also participated in many group shows, as well as numerous exciting One Woman Art Shows, most recently in Negril, Jamaica. Maria's painting "Lilac Frenzy" was selected from among 300 entries for Harvard University's Arnold Arboretum limited edition poster, and the painting "Towards Truro" was featured in American Artist for its statement on conservation. Additionally, many of her original works are housed in Corporate Collections and have been exhibited throughout the US and abroad. Maria paints to evoke the feeling that life is art.
