Acrylic on Canvas / 24"x36"
Born in Petite-Riviere de 'Arbonite on October 15, 1928 to merchant parents, Francois first became known for his work in wood sculpture under the tutelage of the well-known sculptor Odilon Duperrier. In 1956 Francois started his own sculpture studio, which he later turned into a painting studio. He began painting in about 1970. The richness and variety of his works, often representing the Haitian woman, recalls his previous work in sculpture. He has exhibited in Europe, the United States, Mexico, and numerous Caribbean islands. Roger Francois died in February 2013.
